GENERAL RULES OF WEBSITE MEMBERSHIP


  1. Access to the website shall be given to individuals and they will have a ‘user id’ and ‘password’ to access the site.


  1. Members –

Researchers and others from Equal Access, QUT and University of Adelaide, individuals and representatives of organisations invited as resources to the research group are eligible.


  1. Guests –

  • Any representatives of organisations and individuals working on similar or related areas and expressing an interest are eligible for guest membership if an existing member nominates them and approval from the group is obtained.

  • Guest memberships would only be for a week at a time but may be reviewed and extended, if required. In general, at the end of the week the membership would cease to exist.


  1. Confidentiality –

    • All the materials posted on the site are confidential.

    • Memberships are strictly non-transferable and user id and password for accessing the website must not be shared with others.

    • Materials from it should only be used for the purposes of the research project Assessing Communication for Social Change. It should not be used for sharing elsewhere unless such use is considered important in a particular instance. It would require the explicit permission of the person(s) concerned, i.e. researchers who posted the datas.

    • In instances where research materials are being used as stated above, rules to anonymise identities need to be strictly followed to adhere to research ethics and protect the subjects of the research.


  1. Memberships would be given strictly in accordance with the protocols laid out below and would be reviewed once every three months. Any changes required would be made on the basis of the review.



II. PROCESS FOR INTRODUCING NEW MEMBERS TO THE SITE


  1. Seeking consent from existing members for granting new membership

    • Inform all members of the website that membership for the person is currently being considered.

    • Introduce the person – name, organisation, site, area of work and any specific role she/he may have to play in the network.

    • State that they would be informed about and asked to express their acceptance of all the protocols on confidentiality.

    • Seek their consent and/or comments and convey to them that they must respond within a week’s time. Absence of any response from them would be taken as consent to proceed with giving membership.

  2. Informing new member about their membership

    • Convey to the new member all the protocols regarding confidentiality stated in General Rules D. above and seek their acceptance.

    • On receiving their response, convey to them their user id and password.

    • Welcome the new members through e-mail and also through a news item on the site’s homepage.

    • Explain in brief about the structure and use of the site and encourage their active participation on the site.



III. PROCESS FOR INTRODUCING GUEST MEMBERS TO THE SITE

A. Seeking consent from existing members for granting guest membership

    • Inform all members of the website that membership for the person is currently being considered.

    • Introduce the person – name, organisation, site, area of work and why they are being considered for guest membership.

    • State that they would be given membership for one week’s time and can be extended on request.

    • State that they would be informed about and asked to express their acceptance of all the protocols on confidentiality.

    • Seek their consent and/or comments and convey to them that they must respond within a week’s time. Absence of any response from them would be taken as consent to proceed with giving membership.

B. Informing the guest about their membership

    • Convey to the guest all the protocols regarding confidentiality stated in General Rules D. above and seek their acceptance.

    • On receiving their response, convey to them their user id and password.

    • Welcome the new members through e-mail and also a news item on the site’s homepage.

    • Encourage them to respond to postings and/or participate in the ongoing discussions on the website.
